Top Tips to Warm Home

As we head into winter and the days become shorter and colder, we find ourselves spending more time at home. To help keep you and your home warm this winter, we have compiled our top five tips.

Tip #1 – Check Your Radiators Are Clear

A common oversight is that we tend to block radiators with furniture in front of them. This drastically reduces the effectiveness of the radiator being able to heat the room. Simply moving your furniture away can significantly improve warmth.

Tip #2 – Let the Sun In

The British winter is long, dark, and often gloomy – but we do occasionally have a sunny day here and there. In these moments, a free and great way to help heat your home is to keep your curtains open and allow the sun to shine in through your windows.

Tip #3 – Keep the Cold Out

Similarly to Tip #2, once the sunshine has gone and it is turning chilly outside, closing the curtains can help trap heat inside your home and act as a barrier to the cold air outside. Windows allow a lot of heat to pass through and escape. It is why in even colder climates they often have wooden or metal shutters to cover the windows.

Tip #4 – Insulate Your Pipes

Throughout your home, there is metres and metres of pipework that are un-insulated and release heat, especially in exposed places such as the loft. Covering them up with insulation foam tubes not only helps reduce heat loss from your heating system but also reduces the amount of energy required to heat your home.

Tip #5 – New Boiler Installation or Servicing

Boilers do not last forever and will eventually need replacing. The modern boilers we see today are more efficient than older models, particularly those that are more than ten years old.  Replacing your boiler and/or, of course, ensuring it has been serviced annually will save on your energy bill
