A powerflush is an effective and thorough way to remove the build-up of dirt, sludge, rust, and debris that has built up over time in a central heating system. Powerflushing is a more robust method of cleaning your boiler and radiators than a cheaper and less intensive chemical flush – another one of the services that we offer.

We recommend that you have your boiler serviced annually, and it is at this point when it is ideal to also have a powerflush carried out on your central heating system, particularly if you notice the bottom of your radiators staying cold even when the central heating is on. All our heating engineers are Gas Safe registered and are fully proficient in carrying out a powerflush for boilers, radiators, and complete central heating systems.

A powerflush will clean out the build-up of debris in your central heating system. This helps to boost the efficiency of your radiators, protects from rust and scale build-up, and increases the lifespan of your boiler, helping to save money in the long term. The reduction of corrosion and blockages means that there is less likely to be any damage to individual parts, so you should have warmer radiators and a generally quieter and more efficient central heating system.

Why do I need a powerflush?

A powerflush for your central heating system is a service that is carried out to help bring new life to your heating system and boiler. There are several reasons as to why a powerflush is needed but the most common and problematic issue is if you notice cold spots on your radiators. Another good indicator that a powerflush is needed is if your radiators need bleeding often, they are making funny noises or if the heating takes a long time to get to temperature.

How often should I flush?

Your boiler will only need a powerflush a few times in its life. Due to a powerflush being a very thorough deep clean of your heating system compared to a chemical flush, it is advised that a powerflush is needed only once every five to six years on average. There are other factors to consider, including how old your system is and how well it has been maintained over the years. If your boiler and heating system has not been flushed before and it’s more than five years old, we strongly recommend you have a powerflush carried out to help ensure your central heating continues to perform at its best.

How long will a powerflush take?

A powerflush takes longer to carry out than a chemical flush and could take an entire day or more to fully flush your complete central heating system.
