FAQ

Can I Connect My Own Gas Hob?

Never forget that you must be a Gas Safe registered engineer to connect a gas hob if you are intending to try to do the installation yourself.

You need to be qualified to operate on a gas appliance in accordance with the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. Those who get payment for working with gas in any capacity (including but not limited to fitting) are required to be Gas Safe registered under Article 3. Despite the fact that many do-it-yourselfers disagree on what constitutes “competence” under the rule, we insist that you have expertise fitting gas appliances before attempting to do so on your own.

What Rules Apply to Gas Hob Connections?

Keep a safe distance from anything that might provide a fire danger while working. It’s important to keep in mind that LPG tanks are more combustible than NG tanks and shouldn’t be positioned below ground level if you’re dealing with them instead of NG tanks.

Make sure the room you’re in is aired while maintaining a safe distance from any potential fire hazards. Place the gas appliance close to a window or entrance in case a leak develops during installation or afterwards. In light of this, the following rules apply to how you should set up your stove:
If a window is underneath the hob, the window should be at least 500mm away from the hob.

It should be at least 500mm away if it is beside a door.

The stove should be positioned at the end of a work surface, against a wall.

The hot zone on top and on each side of your cooker or hob should be noted while installing the appliance. Make sure that nothing, not even the extractor hood, is fastened for 760mm above it. The heated zone is at 150mm on both sides, where nothing is positioned up to a height of 460mm. Once your hot zone is set up, nothing that may burn or melt—plugs, kitchen appliances, or items—should be placed there.

Place your gas and electrical supplies 1.5 metres or less away from where you will be using your equipment. Check the type of feed your stove will require. Most gas appliances typically just require 13A. But occasionally you’ll require a 32A fused spur.
