A Baxi boiler service is an annual safety and performance check carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We inspect all the key components including the heat exchanger, burner, electrodes and gas valve, test gas pressure and flue gas readings, clean any parts that need it, and check the system pressure and controls are working correctly. We also carry out a combustion analysis to confirm the boiler is burning gas cleanly and not producing dangerous carbon monoxide levels. You’ll get a digital copy of the service report once we’re done, which is useful for warranty purposes and if you ever sell the property.

Once a year. Baxi requires annual servicing to keep your manufacturer warranty valid (most Baxi boilers come with a 7 or 10 year warranty depending on the model and installer). Skip a service and you risk voiding the warranty, even on a boiler that’s only a couple of years old. We recommend booking your service in summer when engineers are less busy and you’ll have time to fix any issues before winter. Leaving it until October or November is risky, because if your boiler fails the service, you might be without heating during the cold months while parts are ordered.

There are three main reasons. First, safety. A service picks up problems like carbon monoxide leaks, cracked heat exchangers or worn seals before they become dangerous. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer and a faulty boiler is one of the main causes in UK homes. Second, efficiency. A serviced boiler runs cleaner and uses less gas, which keeps your bills down. A poorly maintained boiler can use up to 10% more gas to produce the same heat. Third, warranty. Baxi requires annual servicing to honour their warranty, so skipping one could cost you thousands if something major fails later. Regular servicing also extends the life of your boiler, often by several years.

Most Baxi boiler services take 45 minutes to an hour. Newer Baxi 800 and Platinum models tend to be quicker because they have built-in diagnostics that speed up the checks. Older boilers, or ones that haven’t been serviced for a while, may take a bit longer (sometimes up to 90 minutes) because there’s more cleaning involved and we may need to address issues that have built up. We won’t rush the job. A proper service catches problems early, which is the whole point of having one done.
